Royal recognition for marine innovation
We are proud to have received a King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category.
The award recognises the design, development and successful operation of CRC Walrus: a purpose-built 13m amphibious crew transfer vessel designed to reach areas where conventional vessels can struggle, including shallow water, drying seabeds and changing coastal environments.

At a glance
The award celebrates practical innovation developed in response to a genuine operational challenge. CRC Walrus was created to improve the safe and efficient transfer of personnel and equipment in difficult offshore wind environments, combining the capabilities of a commercial crew transfer vessel with a three-wheel amphibious system.
Built for difficult access
Built by Diverse Marine in Cowes, CRC Walrus uses three deployable, hydraulically powered wheels to transition between sea and land. This allows it to cross shallow water, drying seabeds, sand, mud and light shingle.
Designed for commercial operations
CRC Walrus is MCA Category 2 coded for eight passengers and two crew, with a range of up to 60 nautical miles offshore. It can carry up to 1,000kg of cargo and is powered by twin 300hp diesel outboards.
Proven in offshore wind
CRC Walrus entered service at Scroby Sands Wind Farm in February 2023, where its ability to operate in shallow and tidal conditions quickly proved its value. Its success has since supported further investment in CRC’s amphibious fleet.
