Designed with purpose

‘CRC Walrus’ is the world’s first amphibious crew transfer vessel, built to transfer technicians and up to 1,000KG of cargo to shallow and drying wind turbines. Walrus has enjoyed major success working on the Scroby Sands wind farm in East Anglia.

Full specification

Walrus is MCA Cat 2 coded for 8 passengers and 2 crew operating up 60nm offshore day and night. She has push-on bow fendering, suspension seating, full galley and heads as well as a MOB recovery davit and fall arrest system.

Special features

Walrus is fitted a 3-meter sliding walkway to bridge scour pools typically found around offshore installations. Walrus has a wide and spacious saloon for crew and passengers whilst still being road transportable, with a beam of just 4 meters.

Land and sea capabilities

Walrus’s hydraulics system is run by an air-cooled Kubota 37kW hydraulic power unit providing all-wheel drive to three 40” all-terrain tyres on 23” rims, via joystick control . Walrus runs at circa 3 knots on surfaces that include compact sand, light shingle and dry mud.

Smooth transition

Walrus transitions smoothly from displacement to amphibious mode within minutes. At sea, Walrus is a capable vessel with plenty of power provided by twin Oxe 300hp diesel outboards, and a bow thruster. With a high freeboard and large foredeck, Walrus has good seakeeping and a cruising speed of 20 knots.
