There are many steps when it comes to a cable laying project. Whilst Commercial Rib Charter leave the actual cable laying process to the specialists, we are highly experienced and on hand to support with many of the integral stages that ensure these projects come together and run smoothly.
Stage 1 – Survey
The first stage of laying cables is to survey the area.
There are a number of different surveys undertaken prior to a project getting the go ahead, these can be anything from bathymetric surveys to UXO surveys. CRC are able to provide a vast array of boats from 2.8m to 15m in length meaning we have a boat suitable for almost every type of survey.
We have small open ribs, ideal for lakes, canals and coastal rivers, Offshore Cabin Ribs which are able to provide the perfect platforms for multibeam setups. These Cabin Ribs provide the surveyors with plenty of internal space for equipment and computers.
CRC Also have a Dive Support Vessel, which is perfect for underwater trench or cable inspections.
Stage 2 – Clearance, Preparation and Dredging
Should anything be found during the survey process such as UXO or boulders, then CRC are able to provide guard and Patrol boats which are particularly well suited to working the danger, clearance or dredging zones.
We can also provide Shallow Draft Crew Transfer Vessels. These would typically be used to transfer crews from land to the offshore cable landing platform area.
Stage 3 – Cable Pull/ Cable Lay
During the actual laying process, CRC again provide vessels for a number of different roles, whether it be Guard Boats, CTV’s, or smaller work boats to assist with the cable flotation and burial. Sometimes our smaller Ribs are used to maintain cables in a straight line, numerous vessels will attach to the cable and use power to ensure tidal flows have as little effect on the cable as possible.
Our Dive Support Vessel, CRC Tempest can also be utilised to survey the cable once it is landed to the sea bed or it can also be used for buoy removal where buoys have been used to float the cable to shore.
