Following another successful and busy year for CRC the list, as always is endless when it comes to boat maintenance. However, winter gives us the perfect opportunity to give each vessel some TLC. Here’s what’s in store for us over the winter period.
Some of the bigger jobs include:
• With the recent return of CRC Galaxy and CRC Cygnet from an 8 month project in Denmark, both vessels will undergo a thorough refit.
• CRC Cygnet, one of our two 8m amphibious Ribs is already in the workshop, both inboard and outboard engines being serviced and a list of small cosmetic defects to work through. We will also be sending her to Henshaw Inflatables to have additional tube protection fitted.
• CRC Galaxy, one of our 15m Multi role cabin Ribs will have her engines and gearboxes removed. Working closely with SAL Marine engines will undergo a 2000 hour overhaul, this consists of replacing the alternators, starter motors, drive belts inc. the idle pulleys and tensioners, sea water pumps and coolant circulation pumps. The turbo’s will be sent off for overhaul and all fluids and filters replaced. The engines will then be painted and reinstalled following a successful bench test.
• CRC Gladiator and CRC Walrus work full time on the East Coast, CRC Vulcan is providing cover whilst CRC Gladiator has its annual yard period at Alicat Workboats. Work here consists of a full GRP polish and any gel coat repairs, engine and genset services, 1000hrs Jet service carried out by Marine Jet Power. A few cosmetic mods and a fresh coat of antifoul and she is due to be back on service this week.
• CRC Tempest our 12m DSV (Dive Support Vessel) and CRC Sabre our 6.8m FRC (Fast Re-sponse Craft) have recently returned from their offshore deployment acting as daughter crafts for a larger offshore vessel. They will have a thorough check over, machinery and lifting equipment serviced as required and made ready to return to their offshore posts in the new year.
After the Christmas break and full steam ahead into the New Year, the remaining vessels on the fleet will endure similar maintenance programs, until all are looking and performing at their best ready for the season ahead.
