As winter settles in at CRC headquarters, our vessels return from projects, and it’s time to prepare them for the next busy season. This quieter period allows us to carry out scheduled maintenance, machinery servicing, and necessary repairs, as well as more extensive refit work, including engine rebuilds.
All maintenance and repair activities are logged in our Planned Maintenance System (PMS), giving our teams the ability to track trends, review vessel histories, and monitor the overall condition of our fleet.
This season, CRC Galaxy will have its Volvo Penta D6 engines removed and replaced with newly rebuilt units. While this is happening, the gearboxes will be updated with new flexible couplings. The old engines will be rebuilt to “as-new” condition and kept as standby spares, ready for future use.
CRC Vulcan, after last year’s major interior refit, is set for a full engine rebuild. Both Scania DI16 V8 diesel inboard engines will receive new cylinder heads, liners, pistons, and a complete overhaul of the fuel system and ancillaries. With around 13,000 engine hours already logged, these rebuilt engines are expected to provide at least another 10,000 hours of reliable service. A new generator will also be installed as part of this year’s works.
CRC Buccaneer, with its outboard engines reaching high operating hours, will have its engines replaced with brand-new units to ensure peak performance and reliability for the coming season.
For CRC Gladiator, which recently received new engines, the winter work focuses on cosmetic upgrades. Exterior handrails will be removed for re-coating, branding refreshed, and general tidying and touch-ups carried out, keeping the vessel looking its best.
The rest of the fleet will also undergo scheduled servicing and upgrades to maintain dependable performance across all vessels. At CRC, we understand that reliability matters just as much to our clients as it does to us. The quieter winter period provides the ideal window to perform preventive maintenance and ongoing enhancements, ensuring our fleet is fully prepared for the season ahead.
