How many passengers can we carry?

A common question we are asked by potential clients is ‘how many passengers can your vessels carry’? This is a fairly critical criteria and for us at CRC, passenger capacity sometimes solely dictates which vessels in our fleet are suitable for each enquiry. Sometimes customers will require the highest passenger capacity we can provide but others may want flexibility to have space for workstations or additional equipment.

Around half of our commercial fleet have a passenger (or ‘PAX’) capacity of 12 persons. These tend to be our largest crew transfer vessels suitable for work on offshore wind farms, cable installations or nearshore jack-up operations, and these vessels will have suspension seating suitable for harsh offshore environments as well as welfare and galley facilities to increase comfort and endurance. Typical examples are our catamarans ‘CRC Sentinel’ and ‘CRC Vulcan’, and our mid-range Cabin Ribs, ‘CRC Voyager’, ‘CRC Galaxy’, ‘CRC Vanguard’ and ‘CRC Vigliant’.

The rest of our Cabin Rib fleet are around 9-11m in length and have seating for between 4 and 8 passengers, ideal for guard, survey, safety boat and inshore crew transfer duties.

It is worth clarifying here that when we refer to passenger carrying capacity, we are excluding crew, and each of our vessels will usually be run by one master and one deckhand. As per our coding certificates, every vessel has a maximum number of passengers it can carry in addition to ‘safe manning’ requirements, which dictates a minimum number of crew to operate the vessel safely. Therefore, for our larger catamarans, the coding certificate will often give a maximum capacity of 15 persons on board, made up of no more than 12 passengers.
